WoW Upgrades - The item level Upgrade Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also increases the random substatus.

The upgraded gear is usually more useful, unless the item has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as valuable for those with lower requirements because of the requirement to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. However, the item used for the upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear current it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every several weeks.

Upgrades can cost more based on the level of the item but they will always be less expensive than purchasing new equipment. For example, upgrading a Benthic chest piece to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same item upgrades from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapons and tools, armor and accessories. They can be purchased by players from item upgraders NPCs for various currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be applied to any tool, weapon, or armor. button, which will display an item's preview at the next upgrade level when the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the item slot and the current item level as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than gloves or bracers for example. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with certain upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of Flightstones or crests that are used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain level, it can be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currencies.

Many locations have upgraders for their items which include the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount and a chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases depending on the amount of items being upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete some specific achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are only accessible through a variety of methods. This is both a positive and an issue.

In Season 3, a number of new features were added to the upgrade system. Once the player has upgraded to a specific level for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same item level, will cost less. This applies regardless of whether the items come from a different set of equipment.

The amount of Valorstones needed for upgrades is reduced, and the discount is affixed to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade item is also reduced and is not available until players reach certain achievement milestones.

Crests

For example, once an item is at the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is intended to allow players to upgrade their equipment to the highest ilvl possible on all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also essential to use crests in a wise manner, as they have only one purpose. It is recommended to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the best gear that you can find, and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly true for items such as trinkets and rings that fill multiple slots. The discount on the account will only be applicable if all slots on the character are filled with top-quality equipment.
