Weapons

In some cases this bonus can add up to more than the amount of damage that a weapon is able to upgrade on its own.

The cost of upgrading a weapon varies on its rarity and level. For instance, a +2 weapon will require two regular Smithing Stones to upgrade while the +3 model requires four. The number of stones required to upgrade items the weapon will continue to increase until it is required to use the higher level of Smithing Stones, at which the number will be reset to one.

Upgrading weapons will also reroll their base stats. This is usually a good factor, but it could also have negative consequences. Upgrades can make items unusable, unless you are extremely lucky.

The ability to upgrade armor items to improve their effectiveness. In the case of chests or helms, it will boost its defense base while gloves and belts increase their strength and dexterity. Armor also offers the option of rerolling its Enhanced Defense percentage, which means that it could reroll to a lower value.

The upgrade template of a weapon will show the new stats that it will gain upon upgrading, as well as the relative values of those stats. This means that a weapon will gain 33% attack damage when it is upgraded from an 8 attack damage sword to an 11 attack damage sword. The 3% difference does not mean that the weapon will hit 3 times less, as it is an absolute number.

It isn't possible to upgrade armor in the same way as weapons. If you're playing as a Warrior it is best to focus on upgrading your armor to increase physical power or spell power. It is recommended to save your armor upgrades to upgrade the armor you'll still wear by the end of the story, such as the Ring of Lightning, Spectral Shield or the mask you use in the final boss fight The Monter Parts Merchant Mask.

You can also gain benefits to your armor by presenting the jeweler in Gerudo Town 10 Twinkling Titanite. It is generally recommended to save these upgrades to the weapon you'll use to beat the game. For example the Longsword or Battleaxe. But it's useful to have a few upgrades to the chest armor and helmets to let you sneak around some monsters.

Potions

Potions are liquids that, when consumed by the player, provide an immediate effect. There are five kinds of potions, each with different effects and durations. When the old Trinkets are no longer usable they can be upgraded. This allows a player to increase both their power and value with time. They can also be traded between players and are an extremely popular alternative to gold.

Players must upgrade their most valuable items first. This means that the top-in slot items for each class are first upgraded then their secondary gear, and then other pieces of equipment they won't replace in the near future (such as rings or cloaks). Players should also consider their class's preferred stats when choosing the items to upgrade. If Haste and Crit are two of the most important stats to a tank player and they want to upgrade their chest, helm and shoulders.

Trinkets can be upgraded to a higher ilvl after they're no longer needed, and the new trinket can be upgraded to have an additional 1% upgrade bonus.
