Cyberpunk 2077 Item Upgrading Guide

Item upgrading is a key factor in maximizing your gearing potential. It allows you to add extra bonus stats over your base level item's value.

Each upgrade template comes with a set of options which can be changed through the GUI. These options include upgrading reference and chances of upgrading.

Upgrade components

The method of upgrading weapons, armor and other gear in Cyberpunk 2077 has been revamped as part of the 2.0 update. Upgrade components are scattered across Night City. The Best item upgrader you'd like to upgrade should also have an upgrade slot. When you select an item upgrade to upgrade the game will display an image of what the expected stats will be following upgrading, and the required component or material required. If you don't have the required level or resource to upgrade an item the button will say "Blocked."

Weapons and armor can be upgraded, along with a few trinkets and gathering tools. Upgrade slots can be filled on any item with upgrades that give bonus effects or attributes when the equipment is used. These upgrades can be obtained by crafting, purchased from a vendor or looted.

There are two kinds of upgrade components such as universal upgrades and gems. Universal upgrades which are similar to gemstones can be put in any kind of equipment and provide less of a benefit than other upgrade components. Obtaining these is fairly simple, as they can be dropped by enemies, or looted across the globe. Gems, on the other hand, can be gained by disassembling items or completing specific missions.

Upgrades can be replaced by new upgrades inside a weapon's upgrade slot, however doing so could destroy the previous upgrade. Except for glyphs, which may be added to gathering tools, other upgrades cannot be salvaged or removed once they are placed into an item upgrades. Infusions can be put into legendary and ascended equipment. Enrichments can only be recovered by using a high-tier salvaging kit or upgrade extractor.
